The case of Italian biology professor Michele D'Angelo, arrested in Albania since early August following a fatal accident in Fier, has returned to the spotlight in Italy. The newspaper Il Messaggero has published an extensive article raising serious doubts about the accuracy and impartiality of the official expertise of the Albanian Prosecutor's Office.

According to defense attorney Toto Avdiaj, the automotive expertise that still keeps D'Angelo in prison is "distorted and inaccurate." In the official objection made public, the attorney claims that the expert appointed by the Fier Prosecutor's Office has flagrantly distorted the facts, ignoring essential evidence - including video footage of the accident and data on the speed of the other vehicle involved, a Mercedes Benz traveling at about 150 km/h.

The defense document states that the expert stated that the road where the accident occurred had continuous lines, while in reality, according to the defense, it was a question of broken lines designed specifically for turning left towards the bar where D'Angelo and his partner Vanessa Castelli were going to be witnesses at a wedding.

Another key point is the neglect of the official video of the accident, which according to the lawyer proves the extraordinary speed of the other vehicle and could overturn the narrative that led to the professor's arrest. Also noted is the lack of analysis of data from the Mercedes' "black box", which according to the Prosecution had recorded nothing - an assertion that is disputed by the defense.

The lawyer requests a new expertise from a commission of three independent experts, to guarantee impartiality and objective verification of the causes of the accident.

Meanwhile, the issue has also caught the attention of Italian politics. Democratic Party MP Luciano D'Alfonso has directly committed to "extracting the truth and guaranteeing fair treatment." He has requested Italian diplomacy to intervene, and a meeting with Albanian authorities is expected in the coming days.
