The Christmas holiday has significantly increased the number of entries and exits at the Kakavija border crossing, creating long waiting lines, mainly on the Greek side of customs.
Yesterday, until late in the evening, lines of vehicles up to two kilometers long were created in each lane, while delays at Greek customs counters were pronounced for every vehicle.
This morning has also started with an increased flow of movement. The Greek side continues to work with a reduced number of counters, which is creating further delays and vehicles waiting in long lines. The Albanian side is working with 4 counters at the entrance and 3 at the exit.
According to data from the Kakavija Border Crossing Point, on December 24, 2025 alone, 10,508 citizens were registered at the Albanian customs upon entry and exit, of which 8,189 were entering and 2,319 were exiting, as well as 3,219 vehicles, of which 2,472 were entering and 747 were exiting.
Border authorities are urging travelers to plan their movements and respect the rules as the flow is expected to continue in the coming days.
