Journalist Klodiana Lala spoke about the involvement of criminal groups in the elections.
Lala said that crime is hidden and not on the surface in these elections, but stated that in some districts, gangs have their own candidates that they support.
" I think that if a political party enters the elections with a candidate who could potentially be punished by the law tomorrow, it could be a big burden for them. The CEC has sent 16 candidates for in-depth investigation, mainly from small parties, but I notice that there are two concerns. Candidates who are either under indictment or under investigation. They are mainly in the two main camps, the SP and the DP. One problem that I see has to do with unknown names, who seem to have no problems but in in-depth verifications, there is reasonable data that tells us that they are supported by crime. In Durrës, some of the candidates are supported by Xhevdet Troplini. There are names on the list of candidates who are supported by Vangjush Dako, who has had problems with the justice system. The same thing in other cities.
Why shouldn't they be?
If we start with the DP, Mr. Berisha himself, although he is not hindered by the decriminalization law, should not impose a great burden on the party, because it is in conflict with the law, to have names that are not part of the DP. The same goes for Mr. Meta, who is under arrest. If it happens, he will receive a final sentence.
The list is long for the SP. Olta Xhaçka is under investigation, Ceno Klosi, Plarent Ndreca is officially under indictment. There are a number of candidates who could burden the SP, as long as they have reasonable suspicions of a guilty verdict the next day.
"Elbasan is also problematic, the lists seem clean but when you dig into their connections, some of the majority candidates are linked to crime, which is withdrawn but exerts influence," said Lala.
Regarding the candidates for whom the CEC has requested investigations from the prosecution, Lala said that they are mainly for issues of little importance, while most of them are from small parties and have minimal chances of becoming MPs.
"16 candidates for whom the CEC has requested that the prosecution conduct an in-depth investigation. They belong to several small parties, Lapaj, Shabani, Qori, Tom Doshi, and so on."
All of them have declared their records abroad. 7 of them have declared that they have been deported from an EU country. Another one has been convicted of theft and there are others sentenced to an administrative measure. The investigation takes a long time. There are others who are not affected by the decriminalization law, such as speeding fines and so on.
If you look at it mathematically, it's unlikely that all of the names will be MPs tomorrow, because they are unknown and mostly just to fill lists on what they call open lists.
So, I'm not concerned about these facts, but that organized crime has supported candidates who could be in the Assembly tomorrow.
So I continue to go to ground zero, that these two are the biggest problems. How the CEC or SPAK will manage to deal with these candidates or attempts to buy votes, this remains to be seen. This for the 16 candidates is a formality , "said Lala, invited to the show "The Unexposed" on MCN TV.
