An Albanian man has been allowed to stay in the UK because his son may have a learning disability. Blendi Axhami's son was born in the UK in 2017, just a few years after his convicted father arrived in the UK illegally.
The minor son is mainly cared for by his mother, while Axham visits the boy once a week.
Now, it has emerged that the father has been given an 8-year prison sentence in Albania for an unspecified crime - for which the Home Office tried to remove him.
However, the convict was able to resist deportation using the excuse that his son is currently being treated "as if he were autistic" and is currently waiting for a final diagnosis.
Official documents have revealed that the Albanian initially applied to stay in the UK after the birth of his son, but did not declare his previous conviction.
His criminal history was revealed after he was arrested twice in 2021 and charged with one count of possession of Class A drugs.

As a result, the Home Office rejected his application for "permission to remain".
Lower Court Judge Angharad Lloyd-Lawrie ruled that the Albanian's son "would face considerable distress" if his father was extradited.
The Home Office then launched an appeal against the decision, but the case was dismissed earlier this year in January.
A Home Office spokesman confirmed that the department pursued the case properly through the court system.
