Once an exporting country, Albania has now become a destination for sex workers. Frequent police crackdowns on prostitution are revealing a new haven for what is ironically considered the oldest profession.
The girls who find themselves on this path are diverse. Some claim they were tricked and came to Albania for legal work. But then they ended up as escorts. The rest do it willingly.
"I am 20 years old. I come from Colombia. In Albania, I only enjoyed complete freedom for the first 3 weeks, then I was in prison for 7 months and 10 days ," the escort said.

"I learned about Albania from a girl who spoke to me and offered me a job. She paid for my ticket. When I arrived, I was in for a nasty surprise, because the job I was offered was not legal, normal. The girl took me in a taxi from the airport. She took me to a room where there were other girls and told me that I had to work as a prostitute. She explained to me that I should also dedicate myself to this job. I was in unfavorable economic conditions and I had to accept this job that they gave me ," the escort said.

"No, they brought me here with lies. She was from Colombia and we talked. She wrote to me, because she was Colombian. She wrote to me and told me that if I wanted to work abroad. She had noticed that I was economically weak and that I had lived alone since I was little. I always wanted to study and work," the escort said.
In fact, one of the main reasons that pushes these girls to find themselves in such situations is the difficult economic conditions. The girls who are recruited mainly come from countries with low living standards.
