Neritan Sejamini considers Fredi Beleri's candidacy in Himara as a big mistake of the opposition, since he was previously convicted for anti-Albanian slogans and insulting Albania's symbols.
Invited to the show "The Unexposed" on MCN TV, Sejamini stated that Beleri should be allowed to take the oath even though he is a prisoner, as he has the right as a person elected by the citizens, but he considered the choice of Berisha and Meta to run for him cynical .
" I agree that not allowing him to take an oath should not have happened. So he should have taken an oath. The Albanian law allows you to take an exam, it allows you with a police officer, no longer to swear for a duty that thousands of citizens have voted for. Albanian law does not allow space for this, but if you have a wedding, with the police you are allowed to get out of prison and go. This attitude is unforgivable for Albanian politics. We must not confuse the justice process with the political process.
The candidacy of Mr. Beleri was a wrong choice of the Albanian opposition. It is inexplicable how the opposition became a coalition against a person, who we consider innocent, since he was not convicted for the massacre of Peshpia, but was convicted for throwing anti-Albanian slogans, throwing symbols. So he is condemned for this and stands out for a pro-Greek nationalism and a certain chauvinism.
The Albanian opposition has shown a cynical pragmatism in the decision to support Beler. Even the Greek minority itself could find a more suitable candidate, from the point of view of integrity and personal image ," said Sejamini.
