Electoral crimes, Karamuço: 3-4 exponents to be deported from Dubai

Criminalistics expert, Ervin Karamuço, spoke about electoral crimes and the phenomenon of vote buying, to which he states that greater commitment is needed.

Asked whether the task force expects any arrests in flagrante delicto in connection with these May 11 elections, Karamuço expresses his conviction that there should be, citing several cases.

" If it doesn't happen by Sunday, then SPAK has lost its deterrent effect. The Dubai police have a more deterrent effect than our police. Even in 2021, we had information that money was sent from Dubai to be put at the service of certain people who could buy votes."

It is not known how far they have achieved their goal, but in a recent arrest, there are 3-4 exponents, only one of whom has been reported to have returned to Albania, meaning he was deported and not extradited, while nothing is said about the others, because they are not on behalf of the Albanian state but are on behalf of several European law enforcement agencies. They are Albanians and one of them is one of the most powerful in international trafficking. They have been caught and will be deported to the European countries that have requested them.

"One of them is suspected of having dumped a lot of money in Albania for the 2021 elections, has operated mainly in Latin America, was wanted by the Spanish police along with other people who have been detained ," the expert told Euronews Albania.

Karamuço also dwells on another detail, that of the fall of the euro in Albania, a fact to which the expert raises doubts that this could serve to buy votes.

" This action taken by this other Middle Eastern law enforcement body has a kind of effect that reaches Albania in terms of closing the 'taps' of this financing. I am pessimistic because today we had the day where the euro had its lowest historical level in Albania."

"This means that there is an extraordinary presence in the euro liquidity market, which can also serve as a mechanism for buying votes. The authorities should be more concerned now than before regarding the phenomenon of vote buying ," adds Ervin Karamuço.
