Ilir Metaj complains about prison conditions; when SMI had justice, 25 million

Arrested for corruption, the former President complains about the detention conditions that are the result of millions of euros of abuse by former LSI ministers...

For more than 7 months in detention, Ilir Metaj, former President, arrested for corruption, money laundering and concealment of assets, continues the electoral campaign from his cell, speaking about the fight against corruption and crime in the government of Edi Rama, even though he himself governed under him for 4 years.

In a recent message from detention, Metaj complained about the difficult conditions in prison, accusing the Ministry of Justice of the alarming state of overcrowding and inadequate living conditions in detention centers.

He promised that after the victory of the “DP-Greater Albania” coalition on May 11, he would amend the Penal Code together with Sali Berisha. But, it was precisely Ilir Metaj who was in power when the Penal Code was amended twice, only to ease the position of those in power and crime bosses, while the provisions that burden ordinary citizens remained unchanged.

His complaints, now that he himself is in detention, are a pure example of hypocrisy. In fact, Metaj is in a cell with relatively good conditions, the only thing he lacks is freedom and the opportunity to make political bargains.

Metaj complains today about the conditions of detention, but has forgotten that during the SMI government in 2013-2017, when he headed the Ministry of Justice and the General Directorate of Prisons, around 25 million euros of public funds, intended precisely for improving conditions in prisons and detention centers, were abused and disappeared.

Through fictitious tenders, these funds were embezzled by former ministers Nasip Naço, Ylli Manjani and Petrit Vasili, in collaboration with prison directors appointed by the Meta-Kryemadhi couple. The scandals included the theft of funds for prisoners' food, staff uniforms and electronic monitoring bracelets.

Ironically, Ilir Metaj today claims to do politics from his cell, ignoring the fact that the conditions he complains about are a direct result of massive corruption and abuses during the time he himself was in power./ Pamphlet
