Eva Dumani returned to Albania this afternoon and was reunited with her mother, Mide Dumani, after 12 years in Syria. She was sent there by her father and since then the family has continuously requested her return.

Initially, Eva arrived at the border between Syria and Turkey, where Turkish authorities carried out the necessary verification procedures. According to her uncle, Xhetan Ndregjoni, she was interviewed by security structures for several hours. With the intervention of Albanian authorities, she was able to return to her homeland on Friday morning.

Ndregjoni stated that over the course of 12 years, the family faced numerous attempts to bring Eva to Albania, including times when they received promises that were not fulfilled. He described his first meeting with his granddaughter in Turkey, noting that he had last seen her when she was 8 years old, while today she is 20. During the years of separation, communication had been limited to voice messages.

Her mother announced that Eva is in good condition and is spending her first days with her family. Initially, she will stay with relatives to adjust, while later the institutions will follow the steps for her integration into everyday life in Albania.

Eva's return concludes a long process for the Dumani family and opens a new phase for her life in the country.

Xhetan Ndregjoni: We have spent 48 difficult hours after Eva arrived at the Turkish border with Syria. Turkish security authorities interviewed Eva for several hours, but finally, with the help of Albanian authorities, she arrived home this morning.

She threw herself on my neck and just said: uncle, uncle… she started crying. She was scared, as she was surrounded by unknown people, who brought her from a long way from Syria to the border with Turkey.

I couldn't believe she had arrived. The last time I had seen her she was 8 years old. She is 20 today. Her voice was shaking when she hugged me. Up until that moment I had only heard her voice from the voice messages she sent us. It was all unbelievable, because in the past we had been promised many times that they would bring Eva, but it didn't happen.

I am grateful to the many people involved in bringing Eva home.

Endless gratitude to everyone who believed in Eva and to everyone who helped Eva be close to her family today! Thank you! Thank you!”.
