The population census was completed the day before and the collected data will begin to be processed to give the complete panorama of the Albanian society in June, when the final report is expected. The economic expert, Pano Soko, says that the number of the population is the most important data that will come out of the census, since every business plan is built on it.
" We will have a clearer picture of the demographic situation in Albania. It will be accompanied by some data on the general economic situation. As I said, what is expected with interest is the number of the population. This affects every aspect of society. There will be a clearer picture of the need for education and where this need is concentrated. We will have a panorama of expansion that will require investments in education. We will look at businesses and crafts, because today Albania is in a craftsman crisis. What is important remains the number of the population. What is the number of those who live in Albania today? It is very important because every business plan is based on this ", he said in "MCN".
Another piece of data that should be looked at with interest, according to Sokos, is the number of empty apartments. This number will give a clear idea of how artificially inflated the construction bubble is.
" An interesting data is the number of empty apartments. This will show us how much the construction bubble has been inflated by the purchase of apartments outside the need to live. This will show how many apartments contributed to the construction bubble. Someone uses these apartments as cash parking. So you don't keep the dirty money in cash, but you buy an apartment. I am interested in seeing the number of empty apartments. There is a figure of about 40 thousand in all of Albania. If we calculate 100,000 euros on average per apartment, it is 4 billion euros that have served to inflate the construction bubble. It is a data of great interest. Because it shows us how efficient the bodies that grant construction permits have been ," he said.
Also, the census will give a clearer picture of the economic situation of Albanians.
" I hope that based on the census data, the government will agree on the abolition of VAT on food. The government is very far from the people, as long as they think that 400 thousand old lek per month is enough to live ", he continued.
What, according to Sokos, should not have been included in the census survey is the issue of nationality. This is due to the vulnerability of a category of society to the efforts of neighboring countries to artificially increase the numbers of minorities.
" Censet in general, especially in the Balkans, has tried to be used especially by neighboring partner rivals to increase their eventual weight. There have always been debates, I remember even in 2011. There was debate about religion, about nationality. Religion is variable, it changes. The location changes, today you live here, tomorrow somewhere else. What a census verifies are variables. Nationality is not a variable. If you leave it variable, a good part of the lower part of society, for those 200-300 euros, they are ready to change their nationality. This is a dangerous initiative. Nationality should not be left in the hands of the citizen ", he concluded.
