"Washington Examiner" has questioned the fate of the Soros 'empire', the 'emperor' very close to Prime Minister Rama. He once had a very strong friendship with George Soros. Then the latter passed the finances to his son and Rama became very friendly with Alex. But according to the American media, Alex risks sinking the Soros Foundation.
Democratic billionaire George Soros just turned 95. But the legacy of his $25 billion empire has passed into the hands of his inexperienced son.
But his arrival at the helm of the Open Society Foundations has sparked debate and criticism for his lack of experience, drastic decisions, and his more publicly exposed style.
He has tried to build his public profile as an advocate for progressive issues, regularly attending Democratic events and appearing in photos with senior party figures.
In 2024, he personally contributed $500,000 to Kamala Harris' campaign, openly showing his political orientation. To many analysts, this is evidence that Alex is moving OSF from a global foundation to a powerful tool for influencing domestic American politics.
However, this transition has not been without controversy. Critics describe Alex as an unprepared leader, who has no experience in either financial investments or managing such complex organizations. Parker Thayer of the Capital Research Center recalled the huge losses at the company Rivian, where Alex was involved, as an example of his lack of financial skills.
Another critical voice, the author of the book The Heir, describes Alex as a “poor choice,” who made ill-considered decisions soon after taking over: cutting staff by 40% and suspending grants for six months. These moves created chaos within OSF and caused many employees to leave in frustration, considering the new direction unclear and dangerous.
After a period of suspension, OSF resumed its grants program in 2024, announcing a plan to invest $400 million in green job creation. Alex Soros has presented this as a necessary reform, arguing that his father's vision was to challenge bureaucracy and change the way the foundation distributed funds.
However, many former employees and analysts believe that this change is not based on a long-term strategy, but more on Alex's desire to leave his mark and appear as a modern and engaged leader. Some of them accuse him of using OSF as a tool for his personal image, often exposing himself on social networks with photos next to senior figures of the Democratic Party, instead of focusing on the real work of the foundation.
Meanwhile, one of the most noticeable changes is the shift in focus of OSF. George Soros for decades funded international projects on human rights, democracy, and the rights of marginalized communities, often in authoritarian countries. But under Alex's leadership, the foundation seems more focused on political influence in the United States.
This shift has raised doubts about his real intention: is Alex Soros interested in continuing his father's global legacy, or is he transforming OSF into a political weapon for American Democrats?
Analysts remain divided. Some see Alex as a figure who, in time, could learn from and inherit the vision of George Soros, while others believe that his lack of experience and hasty decisions could lead to the downfall of one of the most powerful philanthropic and political empires in the world.
One thing remains clear, however: Alex Soros is now at the center of the American political and financial game. How he manages this wealth and influence will determine whether the “Soros empire” will remain a significant global player, or whether it will enter a new, weaker and more controversial era. /Adapted from “Pamphlet” by “ Washington Examiner ”
