Deputy Fatmir Mediu, while talking about the charges in the Gërdec file, stated that during the time when the incident happened, he resigned because he felt a moral obligation.
Invited to "Top Story", Mediu added that he gave up his post as Minister of Defense, in respect and appreciation for the loss of life. According to him, the action did not come as a result of feeling guilty, but simply a human obligation.
"I think that the only people who have the right to speak and judge in their own way are their family members. In respect and appreciation of that tragedy and the loss of lives, in terms of human and moral feeling, I have resigned as Minister of Defense two days after the tragedy happened.
I have taken a moral stance, but moral stance has no value here. Here it is considered that when you resign you are guilty. I didn't do it because I felt guilty, but during the time when I was Minister of Defense, I felt morally bad as a politician but also as a person that a serious tragedy happened where 26 citizens lost their lives", said Fatmir Mediu .
