On the eve of the new year, the Director of the National Emergency, Skënder Brataj, warns of the dangers arising from the use of fireworks and capsules, while ensuring that all emergency services will be open and reinforced during New Year's Eve.
In an interview with Report TV, Brataj announced that additional measures have been taken to cope with the expected influx of emergencies.
"Emergencies will all be open. There will be reinforcement measures, an increase in teams, personnel, medications, materials and necessary tools," said Brataj.
According to him, the strengthening of the service is also related to the increase in the number of people currently in Albania, which brings more traffic and the risk of accidents.
"The number of people and vehicles increases and this increases the possibility of accidents. We are at the turn of the year and we have an increased problem with pyrotechnic devices, fireworks and capsules," he stressed.
Brataj warned that fireworks and caps can cause trauma, burns, panic and serious injuries, even loss of vision.
"They can cause trauma, burns, panic and other injuries, up to loss of vision if they explode in the eyes. For this reason, we have all emergencies on standby, especially the Trauma Hospital," said the director of the National Emergency.
He added that low temperatures and frost increase the risk of falls and trauma, which require rapid medical intervention.
Another strong appeal from Brataj was about the use of alcohol, especially in combination with medications or narcotics.
"People should be careful with the use of alcohol, especially when mixed with medications or drugs, as it causes serious damage and endangers life. If alcohol is used, one should not drive," warned Brataj.
According to him, the reinforcement of health services was made by order of the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, which was forwarded to all medical structures in the country.
Comparing the situation with previous years, Brataj said that the cities with the highest number of emergency calls, besides Tirana, are Korça, Vlora, Shkodra and tourist areas, where there is a high presence of immigrants. The road axes connecting these cities with Tirana are also under special monitoring.
"The most critical moment remains 12 o'clock at night," concluded Brataj.
