In the run-up to spring elections, social networks are a major force in the spread of political information. Sociologist Ergys Mërtiri told "Abcnews" that social networks have an extraordinary influence, especially on the gray electorate, which he described as determining the elections.
"Today, the role of television is decreasing because there are other forms and other alternative means. Television is important enough that it is everywhere, but social networks create an additional space for people who do not have power over television. We have had cases where, through trols policies, groups influence by sharing, reporting and influencing certain individuals to gain visibility. The gray electorate decides which way the elections will go. These are opportunities for social networks to shift the scale, abstractly. Social networks can create space for new parties. Rama will therefore close Tiktok because it is out of control and prevents a large space of information against it.
Since social networks produce communication outside of the official classical media, this certainly creates influence. What is triumphing today is radicalism, and especially with fake news, it is problematic because it feeds problematic information that leads people towards radicalism" , he concluded.
