The United States Chargé d'Affaires in Tirana, Nancy VanHorn, visited the Ministry of Interior, at a time when the institution is involved in the process of interviewing candidates for the General Director of the State Police.
The American diplomat's visit coincides with the start of the interview phase for the 14 candidates running for the head of the State Police. This process comes after the dismissal of former director Ilir Proda.
Earlier in the day, Minister Besfort Lamallari was also present at the Ministry of Interior premises, where he held a meeting with Prime Minister Edi Rama. No details on the content of this meeting have been made public.
The interview process is taking place in alphabetical order. The first candidate to appear for an interview was Afrim Tafa, currently the director of the Durrës Police.
The selection of the new head of the State Police is considered an important process for the direction of security and law enforcement in the country. The presence of the US representative at this moment has attracted attention, given that international partners often closely follow key processes in security institutions.
