In the Special Court, the trial against the former Minister of Defense, Fatmir Mediu for the Gërdec tragedy is taking place.
Former minister Aldo Bumçi explained the entire procedure of how the ministries acted for the formatting of the legal basis for disarmament and the establishment of Gërdec as a base.
Bumçi also gave explanations for a letter from the Ministry of Justice and Defense, via fax, denying that he had signed such a letter for Shkëlzen Berisha. He said that he had made a report after the explosion in Gërdec, claiming that it was fake.
Bumçi admitted that he knew the son of former Prime Minister Berisha, Shkëlzen Berisha, but that he did not have friendly contacts and that he met him for electoral campaigns. He admitted that he met him at the end of 2007, where he received him twice in Shkëlzen Berisha's office for electoral reasons and that he denied having discussed the issue of weapons.
In today's session, the former secretary of Bumçi also testified, who stated that at the time when the fax was sent, she was on maternity leave.
