Poisoning of children in Gramsh, AKU: Eggs were contaminated in the kindergarten

The National Food Authority has reacted after the poisoning of children in the Gramsh kindergarten. In a statement, the AKU says that the contamination of eggs occurred in the premises of kindergarten no. 1 in Gramsh from other non-food factors (not egg products). Meanwhile, the AKU says that samples taken from the egg producing entity have resulted negative for the Salmonella indicator.

NFA announcement

Regarding the situation that occurred in Kindergarten No. 1, in the city of Gramsh, we clarify to the public opinion that the National Food Authority, after official traceability verifications for the product EGGS, confirms:

Samples taken from the egg production facility have tested negative for Salmonella spp. Also, communication with the Regional Veterinary Service at the AKU has revealed that the poultry farm was tested for Salmonellosis in May 2025, the result of which was negative (healthy birds).

Samples taken from the entity supplied by the manufacturer and at the same time supplier of Kindergarten No. 1 Gramsh have resulted negative for the indicator Salmonella spp.

Samples taken at the subject Kindergarten No. 1 Gramsh resulted in the presence of Salmonella spp.

From the information received so far, it is believed that the contamination of eggs in Kindergarten No. 1 Gramsh occurred in the premises of Kindergarten No. 1 Gramsh from other non-food factors (not egg products).

It is worth noting that from communication with the KVSU units, we have not had any other problematic cases with Salmonella spp, for which we are in continuous inter-institutional communication.

On the other hand, posts distributed on certain social networks, different from this official announcement by the NFA, are not accurate and in themselves constitute public misinformation.

This is because comments on the event and the results of the analyses in question cannot stop only at commenting on the analyses of samples from Kindergarten No. 1 Gramsh, the subject of the event.

In implementation of Law No. 9863 “On Food” (as amended), VKM 760, dated 16.09.2015 “On Requirements for Traceability and Animal Feed Along the Food Chain” specifies traceability processes for cases when a food product turns out to be harmful.

Anyone who feels the need to comment in such cases should wait until the traceability process and the respective analyses have been completed for all links in the traceability process, which goes from the subject of the event, to the supplier, and to the manufacturer.

It should be kept in mind that in the future anyone who makes irresponsible or inaccurate statements may be subject to criminal proceedings.

The confirmed analyses according to this public information from the NFA regarding the negative results for Salmonella spp in the producing entity and the supplying entity highlight the inaccuracy of certain posts on social networks.

In compliance with the legal obligation, with its direct engagement and in cooperation with other institutions, the NFA will remain in constant communication in the future.
