Homage will be held today in honor of Judge Astrit Kalaja in the lobby of the Palace of Congresses.
Judge Kalaja was shot dead two days ago in the courtroom of the Court of Appeals while on duty. This was a serious event not only for justice, but also for the Albanian state, a crime scene that highlighted the major shortcomings of the legal system and security in the country.
The tributes will begin at 09:00 and are expected to end at 11:00. The figure of Astrit Kalasa will be honored by state figures, colleagues, friends and family, who will give him their final farewell today.
After the end of the state ceremony, Astrit Kalaja will be taken to his hometown, Shkodra, between 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM, where he will rest in peace.
Kalaja was shot dead by Elvis Shkambi, whose uncle, Gjon Shkambi, was a party to the ongoing property case trial. Also wounded were father and son, Ragip and Ervis Kurtaj, who were third parties in the case.
