An armed student opened fire in Prague, causing one of the worst tragedies in the modern history of the modern Czech Republic, where the aggressor then committed suicide.
Sidorela Kalemi Doli, Albanian language lecturer at 'Charles University' in Prague, was present inside the university's auditoriums, at the moment when the tragedy happened.
The attack left 15 people dead and over 30 injured, according to the latest data from the Czech authorities. A few hours after the event that shocked the entire world opinion, in an interview for "Liberale.al", the Albanian pedagogue in Prague, Sidorela Kelimi Doli, tells of the hours of horror she experienced:
Sidorela, where were you at the time of the incident?
At the time of the incident, I was on the third floor in room 309 A with the student from Denmark who studies the Albanian language.
How was it experienced and when did the event occur?
I believe around 3 o'clock (in the afternoon) we heard the first crack and I went to the window to see what happened. We thought it was from outside as people started running. The event happened on the fourth floor and we could hear all the shouting of people, the pulling of benches and chairs, but we could not understand what was happening.
How did you react, to escape?
I decided to open the door and see what was going on, while another crack was heard. The student called me to come in and we locked the door. We realized that there was a shooting at the school. We also decided to close and insulate the office door with large chairs and tables and everything else we had inside.
When the police arrived, what happened next?
The noises and screams were continuous. First, my student Jakob wanted to go out to the window, then together we hid under my desk and just put a shelf in front. Meanwhile, students were passing through the window, but we were scared because we didn't know who they were at first. Then they hit the door hard, but we were afraid to open it. The door of the office was blown up by the police forces. There must have been over 10 of them. They suggested we put our hands on our heads and escorted us downstairs. The stairs were covered in blood and we were scared there. We were evacuated and thoroughly searched.
Did the Albanian authorities contact you after the event?
They took us to another building where we rested and received the necessary help. I was contacted by the ambassador of Albania and the ambassador of Kosovo in Prague who were concerned about our safety.
