The Maliq-Gramsh road axis has been affected by heavy traffic today, mainly from vehicles traveling from Korça to Tirana. This segment was suggested as an alternative route after the collapse of the road on the Librazhd-Pogradec axis, becoming the only functional connection for small vehicles from the southeast towards the capital.
The sudden increase in traffic has exceeded the normal capacity of the road, creating long queues and slow movement in some segments. Drivers report long waits and difficulties in crossing, while in some areas traffic has been interrupted.
The situation has been further complicated as three more trailers have been reported blocked on this axis, although the Albanian Road Authority's call for the use of an alternative route was only valid for small vehicles. The presence of heavy tonnage vehicles on a segment that was not designed to handle such loads has led to further traffic slowdowns and difficulties in maneuvering, especially on tight curves and steep segments.
Sources on the ground indicate that the infrastructure of the Maliq-Gramsh axis also presents damage in some parts, including asphalt cracks and worn-out areas, which increases the risk in conditions of increased traffic flow. In some segments, the road is narrow and with limited signage, making it more difficult to manage heavy traffic.
Road authorities and police services are monitoring the situation, while it remains unclear how traffic will be managed in the coming hours, if the flow will continue at the same pace. In the meantime, drivers are requesting more detailed information and concrete measures to avoid further congestion.
The diversion of traffic to a secondary axis, which is already facing infrastructure problems, has highlighted the difficulties of managing emergency situations on the road network, while hundreds of citizens continue to wait in kilometer-long queues.
