Journalist Ola Xama has stated that the company that provided food to students has won numerous public contracts in hospitals, military units and educational institutions.
Around 56 students of the Security Academy in Tirana sought medical help after experiencing symptoms of poisoning after consuming lunch on the institution's premises.
Xama said that the suspicions are related to the catering service provided by the company "Sori-Al". According to her, this company has connections to the head of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce, Nikolin Jaka.
Xama stated that "Sori-Al" and the company "AGS", owned by Alma Tafani and with previous ownership ties to Jaka, have benefited from around 44 million euros in public tenders from 2018 to date.
According to the data she presented, around 18.8 million euros of contracts are related to the supply of food to hospitals, while 12.2 million euros are for the Police Academy and military units.
Meanwhile, the company "AGS" has won approximately 4 million euros in tenders for the supply of food to nurseries and kindergartens.
Xama said that these companies have a significant share in the market for tenders for food and laundry in public institutions, accounting for about a quarter of this market.
