The weekend has brought a significant increase in traffic at the Kakavija border crossing, with numerous movements in both directions of the border with Greece.
On Saturday, a large number of vehicles headed from Albania to Greek territory. Travelers faced long waits at the Greek side of customs, where the queue at noon reached about 3 kilometers.
Most of the people crossing the border intend to celebrate the Orthodox Easter week in Greece. In parallel, there is also an increased movement towards Ioannina for shopping, driven by lower prices for goods.
The implementation of a new control regime on the Greek side has resulted in extended processing times at the border.
Authorities expect the flow to increase further in the coming days due to the holiday.
