Moltov and tear gas in front of the Parliament...
A tense and chaotic situation has been created this evening in the area in front of the Albanian Parliament, where the opposition protest was moved after previous clashes in front of the Prime Minister's Office.
After the tensions at the government building, the Democratic Party protesters headed towards the Parliament. Initially, the situation in front of the Parliament appeared relatively calm, although there was a police cordon being extended and an increased presence of law enforcement officers positioned to protect the building.
However, after a few minutes of calm, the situation escalated. Molotov cocktails were suddenly thrown by protesters, which fell between the police officers and the crowd, causing flames, smoke and moments of panic. According to footage from the scene, some police officers were caught off guard and ran away to escape the flames. It is learned that some officers suffered burns and were taken to hospital. Several citizens were also injured.
In response, the police intervened using water cannons and tear gas to disperse the protesters and regain control of the situation. For several minutes, the area in front of the Parliament was completely covered in smoke, as a result of the Molotov cocktails and the use of tear gas.
Currently, the situation remains tense, while police forces continue to block the security perimeter around the Parliament.
