Supreme Court judges have reacted to the case of two prosecutors Doloreza Musabelliu and Merita Selimi who received threats from Leart Haxhiu's group.
In the reaction of the judges, it is said that pressure or threats of any kind against the magistrates are a serious concern, not only for them, but for the entire Albanian society, which is interested in the protection of the rights and safety of the life of every individual, as well as the functioning normal rule of law.
The reaction of the judges of the Supreme Court
The judges of the Supreme Court follow with concern all references to threats of magistrates due to the exercise of their duties.
The goal of the justice system is to perform its task in a functional and principled manner and therefore it must be protected and guaranteed from any kind of pressure, interference, obstruction, limitation, from any direction that may come, as they violate severely affect its functioning, but also shake the public's trust in justice.
Pressures or threats of any kind against magistrates are a serious concern not only for them, but for the entire Albanian society, which is interested in the protection of the rights and safety of every individual's life, as well as the normal functioning of the rule of law.
The judges of the Supreme Court welcome the correct and responsible implementation of the legal provisions for the protection and guarantee of the life, health and integrity of the magistrates. Public opinion and the competent bodies must be clear that courts and prosecutions are institutions at the service of citizens and society and that any attempt to violate their physical and moral integrity directly affects the independence of the system in general and the individual one, of the magistrate in particular.
With the belief that fellow magistrates will continue to perform their sublime duty with determination and responsibility, at the same time we support the law-enforcement bodies in taking immediate legal, institutional, organizational and material measures, not only for clarifying every event and bringing forward the legal responsibility of culprits, but also the implementation of legal provisions, guaranteeing effective protection for the prevention of illegal behavior.
We invite the media and Albanian citizens to denounce any illegal act to the detriment of justice and magistrates. The judges of the Supreme Court, being in fulfillment of the function and mission for which they have been charged, express the maximum commitment to contribute to the protection of the highest social and democratic values, which guarantee the rule of law itself and the development of the Albanian society. We are and will always be in our constitutional position to fulfill the duty and serve the state and society.
