Today, at 11:30, a hearing will be held at the GJKKO for Erion Veliaj, where SPAK will present the bimonthly information on the progress of the investigations. Veliaj has signed a statement from the Durrës Penitentiary and will not be present, but will be represented by his lawyer.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court has set July 8, at 12:00, for the review of Erion Veliaj's appeal for the security measure. Judge Albana Boksi has been appointed rapporteur. The other two members of the panel will be Medi Bici and Sokol Binaj.
The appeal will be considered in a closed session without the parties present. According to the Supreme Court's announcement, this case has been submitted to an expedited trial, entering the category of priority cases.
On June 9, the Appeal Court of the Republic of Albania upheld the security measure of prison arrest for the mayor of Tirana, who requested his release on bail, without specifying an amount, leaving it to the court's discretion. But Judge Engert Pëllumbi dismissed the request, while also upholding the house arrest measure for businessman Elman Abule, who was himself in the courtroom.
The mayor of Tirana is under investigation for passive corruption and money laundering, and has been in prison custody since February 10.
