American lawmaker Ritchie Torres criticized President Biden's administration for its stance on Kosovo. Through a video message, the Democratic lawmaker from New York, who is also co-chairman of the group on Albanian issues in Congress, says that the battle between democracy and autocracy is one of the main challenges for the 21st century.
" Why is the American State Department wrongly judging democratic Kosovo by making concessions to Serbia, an increasingly autocratic country ", he said in an interview for "VOA".
Torres further added that Kosovo is a staunch ally of the USA, while Serbia has long been a satellite in the orbit of Russia and China.
" Serbia has refused to impose sanctions on Russia, following the aggression in Ukraine and Putin's crimes against the civilian population there. Given these facts, one wonders why DASH insists on making concessions to a satellite state of Russia, at the expense of a stable democratic ally like Kosovo ", said the American congressman.
He emphasized that the time has come for the State Department to place its support where American values lie, behind true democracies like Kosovo.
