Harry Kane has refused to compare himself to Erling Haaland ahead of the highly anticipated 2026 World Cup quarter-final between England and Norway, stressing that the two are strikers with completely different characteristics.
The England captain praised the Norwegian striker highly, describing him as one of the best footballers in the world, but added that he does not see the comparison between them as reasonable.
"It's impossible for me to answer that question. First of all, I think we're completely different players. I know we're both considered strikers, but, to be completely honest, it's like we play in two different positions.
"Erling has been exceptional, his goal record is fantastic. Physically he's a machine, he's a beast. His finishing is at the highest level and the goal statistics speak for themselves," said Kane.
Kane then explained that his playing style is different from Haaland's.
"I see myself as a different player, even though I score the same goals. I like to touch the ball a little more, to be more involved in the construction of the game, but I can also play as a classic number nine. I don't think we should compare ourselves to each other."
In the end, the English striker expressed great respect for the Norwegian star, hoping, however, that he would not have a good day in the confrontation between them.
"I have a lot of respect for him as a player and as a professional. Of course, I hope he has a calm day tomorrow. His performances over the last few years speak for themselves. He is a fantastic player."
In addition to the importance of the match, the duel between Kane and Haaland is also expected to be decisive in the race for the 2026 World Cup Golden Boot. Currently, the Norwegian leads the scorers list with seven goals, while the Englishman follows closely with six.
