KPA overturns KPK decision, Tirana Prosecutor reinstated

The Special Appeals Chamber (SAC) has today overturned the decision of the Independent Qualification Commission (IPC) to dismiss Tirana prosecutor Milan Laskaj, reinstating him in office. The decision was taken unanimously by the panel composed of chairperson Sokol Çomo, rapporteur Ina Rama and members Albana Shtylla, Mimoza Tasi and Natasha Mulaj.

The KPK had dismissed Laskaj in March of this year, arguing that he had a negative balance in the asset criterion. But the KPA, after reviewing the appeal, decided to change this decision and confirm the re-evaluation subject in office. The announcement states that this decision is final and has immediate effect.

"The trial panel, based on Article 66, point 1, letter 'b' of Law No. 84/2016 'On the Transitional Reevaluation of Judges and Prosecutors', unanimously decided to amend Decision No. 748, dated 27.03.2024 of the Independent Qualification Commission and confirm Milan Laskaj in office," the decision announced by the KPA states.
