Meteorologist Tanja Porja has made the weather forecast for this cold beginning of October after a summer with high temperatures and drought.
Porja revealed that this weekend will be characterized by rainfall and low temperatures, while the first snow will fall in the north of the country.
"Starting today, only cloudiness will increase. We expect rain tonight and overnight, and tomorrow we expect significant rainfall mainly in the south, southeast and eastern areas. The northwest and the entire west, i.e. the Albanian coast up to Vlora, are better. In fact, tonight we expect snowfall for the first time. There will be snowfall in the north and northeast tonight and on Thursday afternoon and Friday snowfalls of up to several centimeters are also expected in the southeast. The temperature will drop from 27 degrees to 16 degrees. Tomorrow morning will also be the warmest part of the day. After 09:00 the thermometer will drop, culminating on Friday morning where temperatures will drop from 1 to 0 degrees Celsius in mountainous areas. In Tirana and the west of the country, the morning thermometer drops from 8 to "12 degrees, while the maximums in the Western area drop to a maximum of 19 degrees Celsius," said meteorologist Tanja Porja.
Meteorology further explained that this cold weather is the result of a cyclone that brings icy air currents from northern Europe to the Mediterranean, but will last for short periods.
"It is not typical autumn, we have a short-term winter entry into the autumn season. It will last until Saturday with typical Mediterranean winter weather and then we return to autumn again. We have the arrival of air masses rapidly from the north of the continent that will dive down to the Southeast, causing the thermometer to drop by at least 10 degrees in a period of less than 24 hours. These are not critical weather conditions, but the amount of precipitation will be considerable. Throughout October we will have these short-term two-three-day cycles in different areas of the Mediterranean", the meteorology further revealed.
