The Supreme State Audit Office has sounded the alarm over the shortage of medications or the presence of expired drugs at the Oncology Hospital.
The report was submitted last week to the QSUT directorate. The KLSH audited the period from 2021 to 2025, where it highlights that a very large number of antitumor drugs have been missing for long periods. This, according to the report, has led to a large number of patients going through a difficult situation and risking their lives.
The document obtained by journalist Osman Stafa reveals a serious scandal, where the internal system of the Central Pharmacy, called Pentaho, resulted in 2 expired chemotherapy medications.
Patients with blood cancer, according to the report, suffer from a shortage of the drug daratumumab, for which the QSUT has made a supply of 4,000 thousand vials in 2025, but again it turns out that there is no supply for patients, raising suspicions of mismanagement.
According to the Supreme State Audit Office of Albania, out of 253 antitumor drugs, 116 were not imported, or translated differently: from 2021–2025, 46% of chemotherapies did not enter Albania.
Regarding the drug "Actinomycin", the report says that the QSUT directorate does not have any active contract for the importation of this medication. Also, for the other drug, Phesgo, which is used for women suffering from breast cancer, it is said that at certain times, the situation in the central pharmacy has been zero.
Also, the Supreme State Audit emphasizes that oncology drugs are underfunded by the Albanian state, increasing the risk of cancer patients not being treated properly and when they should be. / Balkan Web
