The government's decision to declare Friday a holiday has caused most of Tirana's residents to leave the capital. A large part have headed southeast, while another part has headed toward the coast. This has caused the Tirana-Elbasan highway and the Tirana-Durrës road to be paralyzed by traffic.
The Tirana-Elbasan highway has been blocked for hours, creating kilometer-long queues. Many drivers have gotten out of their cars, as movement has been impossible. The road to Durrës has also had very heavy traffic. Likewise, the roads in Tirana have also had heavy traffic in the afternoon and evening.
This situation is permanent whenever there are holidays or days off. The police, despite issuing warnings, seem to have failed again in managing the situation. The police are intent on imposing fines and issuing warnings to those who speed, but they forget about the lines of cars.
