Former prosecutor Ervin Karanxha spoke about "January 21" and the killing of 4 protesters. He stated that there were over 40 people convicted in the protest, while adding that people who had no connection to the events of that day were arrested.
"We have been correct with all the acts that occurred that day. But, we must keep in mind something: everything must be proven because during protests, considering the smoke, the footage and the evidence, everything must be proven. Because a case goes to court and suspicion is one thing, the evidence is another. Everything is documented and there is a very long list of damages. There is destruction of public and private property. There were many acts of violence and there is a very high number of people convicted. The 3 organizers have been sent for prosecution by the General Prosecutor's Office, according to the procedure. We have brought each person with evidence and we have not tolerated anyone," Karanxha told "2CNN".
According to him, more precisely, there were over 40 people convicted for 'January 21'. Karanxha emphasized that the footage has been analyzed in detail and that anyone who was photographed committing acts of violence has been criminally prosecuted.
"Of the arrested people, there were some who had no connection to the event at all. This happened because at first the arrests were made in flagrante delicto and then they were evaluated in court. The footage is analyzed, examined, the person is identified and the arrest is made. Most of the people were detained in the back. The footage was analyzed in detail and I guarantee that anyone who was photographed committing acts of violence was prosecuted. The January 21 protest was legal and precipitated illegal actions. Hitting the police with wood constitutes a criminal offense," declared the former prosecutor.
