After more than 5 hours in SPAK, Arbër Veliaj, brother of the arrested mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, has left the premises of the Special Prosecution Office.
He was questioned by special prosecutors regarding Erion Veliaj's file, while in a brief statement to the media, Arbër Veliaj said that he had "voluntarily come to clarify his position."
"I came voluntarily to express my cooperation with the institution," said Arbër Veliaj.
We recall that three weeks ago the Special Court of Appeals dismissed an appeal by Arbër Veliaj, brother of the arrested mayor Erion Veliaj, who opposed the SPAK checks that were carried out in December 2024 in his homes and business premises.
The Supreme Court, with a decision dated May 25, accepted Arbër Veliaj's appeal and returned the file for retrial to the Special Court of Appeals to the same panel.
But, the black platoons decided not to accept the mayor's brother's appeal against the decision of December 20, 2024 of the Special Court on the exercise of controls.
On July 23, Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj was officially indicted on charges of corruption, false declaration of assets, and money laundering. His wife, Ajola Xoxa, has also been included in the investigation.
Veliaj has been in custody since February 10 of this year. He is being investigated in collaboration with Ajola Xoxa and six entrepreneurs, including businessman Elman Abule, who is currently under house arrest.
