Prime Minister Edi Rama has finally remembered the patients of the Oncology Department. To the endless complaints regarding the lack of medicines or the conditions in which patients suffering from tumor diseases are treated, Edi Rama responded today with a video posted on social networks in which he lists several promises.
And the most important for all Oncology patients is the one on expensive medications, which are considered vital for those fighting tumors.
Rama promises that for the first time, a funding line will be opened just for this vital need, expensive medicines, introducing an extra 15 million euros for oncology patients.
"I thought it would be appropriate to share with you the 2026 draft budget with over 1 billion euros for health and social welfare, approximately 4% of the Gross National Product. I am focusing on the fight against cancer and the need for expensive drugs that this fight requires. For the first time, we are opening a financing line solely for this vital need, introducing an extra 15 million euros to serve Oncology patients.
For the first time, breast reconstruction services for women and girls who have cancer will be provided completely and free of charge to all, while the Minister of Health, recently announced among the 100 most influential women in world medicine on the issue of cancer, will lead the national project to establish a national tumor institute for Albania 2030, which will be joined by an international network of institutes fighting cancer," said Rama.
Rama also made a promise to healthcare workers. Thus, 4,600 doctors, nurses and pharmacists, as well as 14,200 technicians and laboratory workers will benefit from a new salary increase.
"This is also a clear message to the new generation of white shirts, that in Albania one stays and works with dignity and that Albania 2030 will become a place where leaving will be simply an individual choice, not an imposition due to the inability to stay and work here."
"With the new Korça hospital, the Durrës emergency room, the municipal hospitals of Mati and Tropoja and others in a row, investments in the modernization of hospital infrastructure will continue intensively. With the clear and declared objective that in Albania by 2030, no health service structure will be outside the standards of the European Union," said Rama.
Through the video message, the Prime Minister promised that next year (2026) artificial intelligence will be introduced into the Albanian healthcare service, through a joint company that the Albanian state is creating with one of the leading artificial intelligence excellences in European healthcare.
Rama said that with the financing provided by European funds, we will create a digital ecosystem ready for artificial intelligence by opening new paths for imaging diagnostics, predictive analytics and national interoperability of the digital health system, in line with the European Union's digital agenda.
"2026 will also open the door to the QSU's strategic partnership with the prestigious San Raffaele Hospital in Milan, one of the best in the world, starting the process of a transformation that will make QSU 2030, a prestigious regional health center throughout the Western Balkans," said Rama.
