Albania of paradoxes: Cost of living and corruption, but Albanians optimistic about the future...
A large-scale survey conducted in 11 countries in the Balkans and beyond, with the participation of over 10,000 citizens, provides a detailed picture of perceptions on the economy, politics, security and external influences.
Albania emerges as one of the most optimistic countries in the region, but at the same time faces the same basic concerns that dominate the entire Balkans: the cost of living, corruption, and economic insecurity.
Inflation and price increases rank as the main problem for citizens in all countries included in the survey. They are followed by corruption, which in some countries such as Bosnia and Serbia is considered the biggest challenge. Although in Albania it does not necessarily rank first, it remains one of the main concerns, closely linked to the economy, unemployment and inequality.
Contrary to the general pessimistic climate in the region, Albanians are among the most optimistic populations about the country's future. Along with Kosovo and Montenegro, the majority of respondents in Albania say they expect the situation to improve in the coming years. This perception contrasts with countries like Greece and Bulgaria, where a sense of uncertainty and disappointment dominates.
This optimism is also accompanied by a preference for political stability. Albanians, like Kosovars, are more inclined to seek the preservation of current balances, while in other countries in the region there is a stronger demand for profound political change.
In terms of the functioning of democracy, Albania ranks among the countries where citizens have the most trust in elections. According to the survey by “Lord Ashcroft Polls”, our country is one of the three countries where the majority of the population believes that electoral processes are fair and reflect the will of the voters. This indicator distinguishes it from countries like Serbia or Bulgaria, where distrust in elections is significantly higher.
However, another important dimension of the study relates to media and information. Across the region, there is a decline in trust in news, with a significant proportion of citizens expressing skepticism about what they read or see. Social media has become the main source of information for many people, raising concerns about the spread of disinformation.
The majority of citizens in the countries analyzed believe that foreign actors try to influence domestic politics through propaganda and fake news. Although the most concrete evidence is often linked to Russian interference, citizens’ perceptions are more dispersed. In many countries, including parts of the region, the United States is perceived as one of the main actors influencing domestic politics, followed by the European Union and Russia.
In Albania, however, the geopolitical orientation remains clear. The population shows strong support for the West, with very high levels of approval for the European Union and NATO. Albania is among the countries with the highest support for the military alliance, with around 95% of citizens considering membership positive. Also, a significant majority sees Russia as a threat, unlike some other countries in the region where perceptions are more divided.
Another important indicator relates to security. Albanians are among the most convinced that NATO would intervene in the event of a military threat, a level of confidence that exceeds many other countries, including some members of the alliance.
The survey also highlights deep divisions within the region regarding strategic orientation. While most countries lean towards the European Union and the United States, in countries such as Serbia, Turkey or Bulgaria there is a greater inclination towards Russia or a neutral stance.
Overall, the data shows a fragmented Balkans, where countries share common economic and social concerns, but differ significantly in political perceptions and international orientation. Albania is positioned as one of the most pro-Western and optimistic countries, but this does not exempt it from the challenges affecting the region, especially corruption, economic insecurity and the growing influence of disinformation. /Pamphlet

Nuk fillohet ekonomia e brekegrisurve me kazino e diskoteka por me mend ne koke. Kane bota kazino e vendi qejfi, por kane edhe mundesi e para te teperta per t'i qef.
