Albania will turn into an arms factory for Ukraine. The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, during the summit in Tirana, declared that he has signed an agreement with the Prime Minister Edi Rama for the production of weapons and ammunition, giving signals that the production of armaments will start here.
In fact, the one who put the stamp on it is the Minister of Defense Niko Peleshi, who has accepted that the old factories will be rebuilt.
But does Albania have the capacity today to produce military weapons?
This question was answered in the news studio at "Ora News", former Colonel Dilaver Goxhaj.
"We have them in the factories, but we have them as carbines. These must also have the means to produce them. And we sold them for scrap. To start this industry from scratch, you need to provide the necessary tools. We do not have any mines and steel plants, so we do not produce iron or steel. Which means we have to buy both the equipment and the tools, but also the raw material, since you don't have them.
Secondly, Albania has had these plants and factories, but the cadre of employees and personnel must also be prepared. Who will use these weapons? Therefore, by the time we do this, the war in Ukraine will be over. We not only lack workers, but also engineers. Therefore, at the moment, it seems to me like a political statement, and we cannot come to the aid of Ukraine", said ex-soldier Goxhaj, among other things.
Is Albania's guarantee in NATO sufficient, or should our country have higher guarantees?
"Greece, Macedonia and Montenegro are also in NATO. Why do they arm themselves and we don't? The answer is given by politics. Nothing is eternal. Trump has said that if I become president, they will either pay like me or NATO will be dissolved.
And if NATO was dissolved, there is no one to protect us. Greece does not have a martial law. Greece is waiting for NATO to break and we have no one to protect us. Then he tells us kalimera, kalispera. That's why Albanian politics has shown itself to be short-sighted", replied the colonel.
