Russian influence in the Balkans, security expert: FSB and GRU secret services
Security expert Bedri Elezi

The United States of America on Thursday blacklisted 10 individuals, as they announced the next round of economic sanctions in the Balkans.

According to the official website of the US Treasury, the sanctioned individuals are from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Serbia.

The security expert Bedri Elezi also spoke about this issue, who said that the US has a program with which they investigate various persons who plan or work for various institutions to harm American interests.

He said that unfortunately this list also includes citizens of the Albanian community who live in Albania, Kosovo or Macedonia.

"Continuously, the USA has published lists of non-women, where unfortunately there are also citizens of the Albanian community living in Albania, Kosovo or Macedonia, where the USA has classified them as undesirable persons for the USA. This list will continue further, where the US has a program of publishing lists that is done at times and with certain reasoning, when there are different activities of the US department on certain issues, it publishes some lists to never cut off communication with citizens to inform the persons who are unwanted in the USA", said Elezi.

Regarding the role of Serbia, Elezi said that Serbia, Russia's ally, is trying to fulfill its obligations towards Russia and to keep the Balkans tense and has achieved its goal.

"Each recommendation from the US and NATO must be taken seriously, where we can reflect on a serious effort not to escalate the security situation in the Balkans and throughout Europe. At no time, we dare not allow the 'hotbed of fire' for the violation of the Balkans or the whole of Europe", said the expert.

We have seen a visit by the head of the Serbian secret service, and the president of Bosnia, who had paid a visit to President Putin in Moscow, where they had received the necessary instructions to prepare for the escalation of the security situation.

"Serbia, which is an ally of Russia, is trying to fulfill its obligations to Russia and to keep the Balkans tense, and we can say that it has succeeded, as we have seen the fact that on September 24 there was a terrorist attack that involved a large group of members of terrorist groups, as well as an arsenal of weapons that were really meant to deal with a powerful organization like the one on September 24," Elezi added.

Commenting on the reaction of the Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelensky, who said that Russia is preparing an operation called "Maidan-3" in order to cause a coup in Ukraine and that it could create "new crises" in the Balkans and Moldova in order to divert the world's attention from the war in Ukraine, the expert said that Moscow is behind these actions and defects, because of the developments in Ukraine, it wants to open other hotbeds and it did this in Middle East, Gaza Strip.

"We have warned the same thing before when we said that Moscow is behind these actions and defects, because of the developments in Ukraine, it wants to open other hotbeds and it did this in the Middle East, The Gaza Strip. Therefore, these warnings made by the President of Ukraine were not only us, but many experts and different institutions have seen the reaction of the German Chancellor, Scholz, who requested high vigilance from NATO and KFOR in Kosovo, statements of the department of the USA. In the north of Kosovo, additional forces have been sent to 4 municipalities with a Serbian majority such as Britain, Turkey, Hungary and we have deployment of multinational brigades in Kosovo towards the north. So there is a concrete movement that argues the claims of President Zelensky", said Elezi.

Also, expert Elezi added that the presence of Russia's security intelligence forces, which is spread over Montenegro, Serbia, Bosnia, and Macedonia, is evident. He said that "the agencies of the intelligence services of the Balkan countries must cooperate closely to exchange information with Russian persons and personalities, especially those who are hidden behind different businesses where we have seen that many businesses or influences through the communication of commercial lines have had a lot in the region and if we share information together as Balkan states and coordinate well with the US, I think we will reduce Russian influence".

"The Russian secret services, especially the FSB and GRU, are present in the Balkans, especially in Montenegro, Serbia, and Bosnia, where they are quite well spread in Macedonia as well. There are also various activities in Kosovo and Albania, where we can say that in Kosovo they are more focused due to the presence of the American army which operates more strongly in the territory of the Republic of Kosovo, where we have also had cases of detained persons or arrested for various activities, such as in Albania in a military barracks and also the case in Macedonia where there were attempts to undermine peace and security in those parts, where also in Montenegro where there were attempts at a coup d'état. So the presence of Russia's security intelligence forces is evident", concluded Elezi.
