In an epidemiological situation where the COVID flu, measles, and many viruses are circulating, virologists say that the subvariant of Omicron-JN1, which is considered important by the World Health Organization, may also be present in Albania.
The head of the microbiology laboratory at QSUT, Prof. Andi Koraqi, says from the clinical symptoms that this subvariant shows, it is similar to the flu, although it has a greater tendency to affect the gastroenteritis system.
"Based on the data referring to countries neighboring us, JN1 may have entered ," he said.
In Albania, they are no longer vaccinating against COVID, as the majority think that they have completed the first doses and that no one has remained unaffected by at least one variant of the coronavirus, thus considering that they have natural immunity.
"It has been seen that as a vaccine but even when you have passed the immunity lasts from 6-8 months. It is not like the measles vaccine that creates permanent immunity", declared Koraqi.
But what happens with viruses? Omicron is considered a subvariant that does not cause severe forms. Has his power declined to make more aggressive mutations?
"Of course yes. Viruses continue to create mutations. It may happen that another one appears that causes severe forms of the disease ," he said.
