IGJEUM expert Anira Gjoni, in a statement to Euronews Albania, reacted to the warnings of a renowned Greek meteorologist, who said that Albania will be hit by a powerful storm, with intense rainfall, a significant drop in temperatures and snow in mountainous areas.
Gjoni emphasized that this situation has been anticipated since Monday by Albanian institutions and it is not necessary for citizens to wait for information from specialists in neighboring countries.
" We have been announcing this since Monday. We expect this weather to accompany us throughout the weekend. It is not that we are waiting for our counterparts in neighboring countries to inform us. We are expecting stormy weather, moderate and intense rainfall in some regions, in the form of thunderstorms. It should be noted that snowfall is expected in mountainous areas up to 800 meters high ," she told Euronews Albania.
The expert also warned of the possibility of flooding in some urban areas due to the intensity of rainfall and storms.
" We could have water flooding in cities like Durrës, Vlora, Berat, Gjirokastra and Kukës ," Gjoni added.
According to her, the wind will also be problematic, with intensity ranging from medium to strong, while temperatures will drop significantly, with minimums expected to drop to 7°C and maximums not exceeding 16°C.
" The most critical days will be Thursday and Friday, when the rainfall will be more pronounced. On Saturday, the situation is expected to improve and the rainfall to stop, " concluded Gjoni.
