In ordinary apartments, behind closed windows and daily rents, a silent industry thrives: the sex trade. Albania is becoming a transit station and destination for organized international prostitution. How does this network work? Who are the beneficiaries and what does the state do in such cases?
The testimony of a Brazilian citizen, L. Da SC, who agreed to tell her story to "Sinjalizo" under conditions of anonymity, sheds light on a well-structured network that has turned Albania into a new station for the body trade.

"This year I turned 30, I came from Brazil, I had never heard of Albania before, my arrival happened through social networks, I communicated with a person who introduced himself as Aleksandër. He promised me work and accommodation. When I arrived in Rinas, I was met by a stranger who took me straight to an apartment. I split the profits in half with him. Of course I don't feel good about what I chose to do but I had no other choice, I needed money."
The 30-year-old Brazilian is not alone, her story is like many others. Aware of the path they have chosen, they say they often fear for their lives. The fear that they may face violence is a daily occurrence.
Along with LSC, two of her friends from Brazil also engage in the same activity, having followed the same path – contacts on social networks, a host in Albania and then distribution of the profits. Their story is also the story of dozens of girls who have chosen Albania for the same activity. It is part of a long and well-organized chain of trafficking and exploitation of prostitution that has begun to take on worrying proportions in the country.
The role of Albanians and how does this network work?
The abuse of girls who are often quite young, or who fall prey to violence and abuse, even in more serious cases, are some of the consequences of this criminal organization. A system that originates outside Albania, but in which Albanians play a role.
According to Arbër Zemani - Head of the illegal trafficking and narcotics sector at the Tirana Police, criminal networks operate through cross-border cooperation and use increasingly sophisticated methods to hide their activity. However, these Airbnbs or houses adapted for prostitution are often known to residents of the buildings or neighborhoods.
Gëzim is an administrator in a building near the "December 21" area. He says that there are several houses in the building where unknown men come in and out and who don't frequent the residents because he already knows almost everyone, but this started happening when girls came from outside.

Rrugët që ndiqen-Si vijnë në Shqipëri?
Teksa disa vite më parë raste të tilla ishin të pakta, vitin e fundit janë bërë të zakonshme. Vajzat, kryesisht që vijnë nga Brazili, Kolumbia, Venezuela dhe Turqia, udhëtojnë përmes shteteve europiane dhe vijnë në Shqipëri ku priten nga shqiptarë që i strehojnë dhe koordinojnë aktivitetin e tyre.
“Komunikimi me rekrutuesit ndodh në rrjete sociale, zakonisht përmes numrave joshqiptarë. Në aeroport, ato priten nga persona të paidentifikuar që nuk përdorin emrat e tyre të vërtetë”, thotë gazetari investigativ Merin Maçi.
Në Shqipëri, këto vajzat vendosën në apartamente, AirBnb apo qendra masazhesh që shërbejnë si mënyrë për të fshehur veprimtarinë e tyre. Klientët sigurohen përmes rrjeteve të mbyllura sociale dhe aplikacioneve të komunikimit të fshehtë. “Escort in Tirana” për një kohë të gjatë ka qenë një Ëeb shumë i njohur në kryeqytet, çdo njeri mund ta aksesojë dhe “porosisje” online vajzat.
Edhe pse në Shqipëri kjo nuk është e lejueshme mesa duket kjo nuk ka rëndësi për përfituesit kriminal.
Çfarë tregojnë shifrat?
Vetëm në vitin 2024 dhe fillimin e vitit 2025, janë arrestuar 15 shtetase të huaja dhe 10 shtetas shqiptarë si pjesë e këtij rrjeti. Ndërsa rreth 90 vajza të tjera janë proceduar në gjendje të lirë, shumica prej tyre të huaja. Rastet më të sheshta thotë policia janë në qytete si Tirana Durrësi ose Vlora.
Operacionet e policisë janë shtuar në dy vitet e fundit, kryesisht pas ankesave të qytetarëve për zhurma dhe hyrje-dalje të dyshimta në banesa. “Policia ka përdorur të gjitha mjetet ligjore – përgjime, vëzhgime, infiltrime – për të zbuluar mënyrën e funksionimit të këtyre rrjeteve,” thotë Policia.

Fenomeni i shfrytëzimit për prostitucion nuk njeh moshë. Në Fier, një çift pensionistësh u dënua me nga 7 vite burg për organizimin e rrjetit të prostitucionit në hotelin “Oda e Miqve”. Besiko dhe Nesti Golemaj drejtonin një zinxhir lokalesh dhe hotelesh që shërbenin për këtë veprimtari, duke përfshirë gra të martuara dhe të reja nga zona të ndryshme. Por këto dënime jo vetëm që nuk sjellin frenim, por janë shpesh herë me të mëdha se për krime të rënda! Çka e bën funksionimin e ligjit në Shqipëri jo pak absurd! Përhapja e këtij fenomeni duket se nuk është vetëm në raste të vajzave që udhëtojnë nga vende të botës, por edhe një formë që po përdoret në vend me viktima të cilët përballën me varfëri apo divorce që mbetën mes rrugëve dhe bien pre e këtij shfrytëzimi.
Legalizimi i prostitucionit, a është Shqipëria ende gati?
The new draft of the Criminal Code has been on the table of the Minister of Justice for a long time, which includes a bold proposal: the legalization of prostitution and brothels. So far, this draft has been discussed very little publicly, but if approved, it would mark a turning point in the treatment of this phenomenon. Many European countries already have it regulated by law and allow brothels; the Netherlands, Switzerland or Germany are some of these countries!
While for many girls Albania is seen as an opportunity for profit through prostitution, behind the scenes lurk criminal networks that profit from poverty and the lack of alternatives.
Their testimonies are a cry for help, for justice, and for intervention. And while a new penal code may change the legal approach, today's reality remains grim – a trade in bodies that takes place silently, in the heart of our cities.
In a country where silence and indifference have become allies of abuse, sex trafficking is no longer a taboo, but a bitter reality.
If this reality is not taken into consideration and faced with courage, Albania risks becoming not only a transit country but also a destination for traffickers and hell for victims./ Albanian Center for Quality Journalism
