The Director of Prisons Police, Paulin Rajta, in a statement for the media, spoke about the criminal amnesty from Reçit Prison.
Rajta emphasized that one of the reasons for the amnesty was the fact that prisons were overcrowded. According to him, this is the state's effort to reintegrate convicted people into society.
"The implementation of the amnesty has just started. About 140 people benefit from this prison, who will be released today. The amnesty is the state's effort to rehabilitate those people, to reintegrate them into society, the people who leave the cells. It is also taken into account the behavior of many prisoners, who become part of the amnesty.Part of the amnesty are only those persons who do not pose a danger to the citizens' safety.
Amnesty also solves problems of prison overcrowding. This makes the prison more functional, the remaining prisoners can have more space. Even the prison police are somewhat relieved, as it is a difficult and burdensome job when there is overcrowding. All prisons were overcrowded and one of the reasons for the amnesty was overcrowding," he said.
