The implementation of the criminal amnesty started today. After a visit to Rrogozhina prison, the Minister of Justice Ulsi Manja declared that about 800 convicts will benefit.
He emphasized that no senior official, who has been convicted by GJKKO, benefits from the criminal amnesty. Manja further added that the state budget saves 30 million euros from this amnesty.
"Beneficiaries are 15 women, while 9 others benefit from reduced sentences. My congratulations go to their families, but also to them. I wish for a normal union, to return to honest work. This was the message I gave to a group of convicts, don't look back, family is above everything. I also want to thank the general directorate of prisons, which during this time, processed the documentation of 1600 people. This process will continue. You will receive the figures, the categories of persons in the following days, no senior official who is currently serving a sentence will benefit from this amnesty. With a reduced sentence, there are a number the size of the fingers of one hand, they are released with a reduced sentence, Beneficiary category of high officials, there is none. The cost for one prisoner is 36.5 euros, it saves the state budget 30 million euros", said Manja.
