Former prosecutor Ervin Karanxha declared that the Justice Reform has failed, arguing that the problems started in the vetting phase.
According to Karanxha, some of the members of the vetting bodies did not meet the legal criteria to exercise their function.
"The vetting found that its members, most of them, did not meet the legal criteria to be in this country. There are also 3 people who are in politics. One of them is a member of the Socialist Party after the vetting was over. So, the evil starts from the selection of the vetting members ," he said to "A2 CNN".
The former prosecutor also raised concerns about the increase in the number of files carried over into the justice system. According to him, unlike what was stated at the beginning of the reform, when there was talk of around 16 thousand backlogged files, this number has currently reached around 200 thousand.
"Albanian citizens need to go to court and get their work done, which is why the reform was made. Professionals have been removed and it is not so easy to fill them now," Karanxha stressed, adding that the removal of experienced judges and prosecutors has affected the functioning of the system.
His statements come at a time when the debate about the effects and results of the Justice Reform continues to remain part of the public and political discussion.
