Former Interior Minister and former general Sandër Lleshaj said in a program that Kosovo should continue its journey as an independent state recognized by more than 100 countries, without worrying about recognition by Serbia.
This, according to him, should be done through full control of the territory and establishment of a clear, universally recognized status for the Serbian minorities.
Lleshaj said that Kosovo should create its own capacities for the protection of the borders, just like Albania should do, which, as he said, should always be prepared for an option other than peace in the Balkans.
Lleshaj did not spare the criticism of KFOR when he said that the NATO mission should do a better control of the territory.
According to him, KFOR is responsible for creating a gray area in the North, where the law is not enforced and is a hotbed for crime and smuggling and the introduction of weapons.
"Kosovo has the right to what it wants, but in international relations, power is also needed to realize the right. If you don't have both, it's not enough. Kosovo has wasted a lot of time. Because Kosovo has not managed to establish control over its territory when it was liberated. A part of the territory was left out of control. Normally in the definition of the state one of the three elements is the control of the territory. It has been 23 years since he exercised de facto control in that part of the territory. It seeks to make up for lost time with all the goodwill but with reduced economic, military and political power.
It has not yet secured full international support for this. A black zone should not be left there, a haven for crime and smuggling. The more you dig there, the more you will find. Kosovo should establish control there.
KFOR has the power and does not take permission and does not ask anyone. That he entered there by force and established a legal regime. But depending on the situation on the ground, KFOR has increased or decreased its presence.
KFOR deserves strong criticism for escalating the situation. He should have done a better control of the territory", said Lleshaj in "Euronews".
