Analyst Mustafa Nano does not see the local elections held today in 5 municipalities in the country as a test of citizens' relationship with politics.
In an analysis in the MCN studio, Nano focused on three factors that, according to him, may have influenced the low voter turnout.
" I don't think anyone expected a large turnout. First of all, there was no electoral climate. Party leaders were not campaigning. Rama was at his job as prime minister, Berisha was at the headquarters. Basically, there was no electoral campaign. The candidates tried, but the media didn't get involved much with the campaign either. Then there was a climate at the moment when the DP surrendered the right to run. This may have discouraged opposition voters. Socialists come out, rain or shine. The day may have also had an impact, people preferred to stay home ," he said.
Focusing specifically on the Municipality of Vlora, where only 12.84% of eligible citizens voted, Nano said that this figure should not come as a surprise.
" Vlora is a phenomenon to analyze. It is not part of the municipalities with fanatical voters. Today it has two times less than in the past elections. It may also be in the DNA of the people of Vlora that they do not worry about elections. Perhaps they have a characteristic that they do not attach importance to election day. They did not surprise us this time. They have almost always been at the bottom of the participation classification. Perhaps the fact that the Democrats there are divided has also influenced. There is a kind of disorganization that may have influenced it ", said Nano.
Regarding candidates, Nano said that there is a tendency for parties to elect people with low profiles.
" I don't know why political parties in recent years have preferred to play with low-profile characters. I don't know why they ignore public figures with contributions. This is due to the fact that political parties are convinced to do whatever they want because there is no sensitivity. It is not the right electoral event to talk about a test ," he continued.
