The National Food Authority has blocked 50 tons of corn intended for livestock feed, following suspicions of contamination with aflatoxin B1, a substance dangerous to animal and human health.
The head of the food sector at the AKU Elbasan, Firdus Kurti, stated that two shipments of corn imported from Serbia have resulted, after laboratory analysis, in the presence of aflatoxin B1.
"This quantity has been blocked in the entity's warehouse," said Kurti, as he explained that, "currently, inspectors are awaiting results for 25 tons of corn, while another 25 tons of this quantity are expected to be destroyed, based on the suspicions raised and preliminary checks . "
AKU Elbasan has intensified controls on all commercial entities of these food products, with the aim of guaranteeing food safety and protecting consumers./ A2CNN
