Crime in Albania shows a reality to worry about, says the Special Prosecutor's Office after an analysis of the results of the investigations it carried out throughout 2023.
In the annual report submitted to the High Council of Prosecution and the Assembly, SPAK lists 9 cities where groups with active criminal activity have been identified.
They are Tirana, Durres, Fieri, Vlora, Elbasan, Shkodra, Gjirokastra, Kurbini and Fushë-Kruja.
Based on the investigative cases, SPAK says that in Tirana and mainly the coastal cities, criminal groups are focused on money laundering. Leaders of groups use girls and women with close ties to them, giving them an active role in moving money and entering the economy.
In Durrës, Fier, Gjirokastër and Kurbin, drug trafficking is considered a significant problem.
While in the field of crimes against life, such as murders and attempted murders, there are more violent incidents in Durrës, Fier, Fushë-Kruje, Vlorë, Shkodër and Elbasan.
Fushë-Kruja seems to be the center of ensuring conditions for assassinations. SPAK says that it has documented the activity of buying and selling firearms, explosives and car theft.
The Special Prosecutor's Office divides the criminal groups into two categories, those that specialize only in cocaine trafficking and are closely linked to Latin America, and those that deal with the trafficking of all drugs.
The latter have strong ties to the city of Durrës and according to SPAK it has been established that they traffic in high quality narcotics.
