Police in courts after the murder of Judge Kalaja? Officers conduct searches

20 days after the murder of judge Astrit Kalaja, despite individual efforts, the protocol for inspections in the courts remains the same.

Although all the judges at the general meeting requested the return of police inside the premises, this cannot happen without changing the law.

For this reason, Ilir Rusi, head of the Supreme Court of Kosovo, held a meeting with Prosecutor General Olsian Çela and Ilir Proda, Director General of the Police.

An official announcement from the Supreme Court of Justice mentions that the three officials have agreed on the need for legal changes for security. While unofficially, TCH was told that the Supreme Court of Justice has proposed that, while the changes are taking place, the police will train the administrative staff of the courts charged by law to conduct internal checks. Law enforcement officers, despite patrols, should conduct checks outside this perimeter and intervene only if they are notified of incidents.

" Since the murder of Judge Astrit Kalaja in the courtroom, promises are being made that a series of measures are being taken to guarantee the lives of judges, prosecutors, staff and litigants, albeit with delay. The Supreme Court of Justice has also requested the assistance of local authorities for the construction of eight new buildings for courts in districts considered substandard and two others in Tirana, one for the appeal and the other for the court of first instance ," reports Top Channel journalist Anila Hoxha.

After the murder, a high number of official statements were made requesting a fixed security protocol. Meanwhile, the murderer of Judge Elvis Shkëmbi has not appealed the measure of arrest in prison. On Monday, in the same court where the crime occurred, his uncle, Gjon Shkëmbi, returned with a request to lift the first-degree measure. Likewise, the security guard, Banush Koxhaj, is suspected of abusing his duty by not checking and evaluating the detector alarm that showed that the murderer was entering with a pistol./TCH
