"The competition has increased, important changes in the Federation", the balance of basketball for 2023.
Albanian basketball has closed the activities of the year 2023, as a few days ago the Albanian Basketball Federation also held the Ordinary Assembly.
This year too, just like the previous one, has a busy calendar, with national competitions, but also nationwide activities in the ranks of women.
Beyond the usual problems that are already known, the sport of basket gave emotions, which culminated especially with the final matches.
In a televised interview, the President of the FSHB, Mr. Avni Ponari, takes stock of the year we are leaving behind and the year ahead.
" This basketball year has been an interesting year. We no longer have a national team as things have changed. We have 8 national teams, 6 age groups and 2 adult national teams.
There is a development of basketball in general. There is an awareness, there is an increase, but there is also a challenge among young people, among young people, who are falling in love more and more. Especially the oils, which have been activated, even in activities sponsored by FIBA. But also from the Albanian Basketball Federation.
Today, the number of matches has quadrupled compared to 2 years ago. The number of teams is doubled or tripled. Activities are developed in all directions. Starting from Junior NBA, UNIQUE LEAGUE, which is a big challenge. Last year, Partizan's girls' team won the UNIQUE LEAGUE Cup. This year the activity will take place in the city of Vlora, I believe. And it will be a very big race of adults. What I must emphasize is that the competition has increased ", says Ponari.
But what is expected during the year 2024 with Albania that will host two more European championships in the sport of basketball?
" In February we are with the great national team, with Armenia. But recently we received the news that Albania becomes perhaps the only country in Europe that the Albanian Basketball Federation organizes two European competitions, U16 and U18. So from 10 teams for each. Which means that over 300 basketball players from all over Europe will be in the city of Durrës, in the "Goga Basket" Sports Palace, and the same number will participate in the city of Elbasan.
So, we are on the verge of great challenges. We are on the verge of important activities. And of course, the changes made in the Albanian Basketball Federation, changing the General Secretary and taking a former player of the National Team, with 15 years of experience in the Italian championship. Calling another star of basketball activities in Italy, Claudio Ndoja, to lead the national basketball teams. So, we have made the changes that we hope to get positive results as well ", says the president of the FSB.
At the end of the interview, Mr. Ponari has a wish for the new year.
" Let's hope that 2024 will have important events. Let's hope that sports quality, education and culture in the sport of basketball will be the big challenge that the FSHB has with all associations and basketball clubs .
