The fiscal peace initiative, but also promises in the election campaign to forgive fines, confused citizens in May regarding the payment of tax obligations.
The accumulated debt reached 4.7 billion lek, mostly as a result of entities that do not pay profit tax, but also social and health insurance for employees.
The Director General of Taxation, Ilir Binaj, explains that the fiscal peace initiative is not related to the obligation that individuals and businesses have to pay current taxes.
" We cannot say what may have delayed it, but I believe it may have been a misconception about when fiscal peace will happen or when the forgiveness of tax liabilities will happen. It has not happened yet, we are waiting. We will inform you again. The forgiveness was for late payment interest, for fines, but not for liabilities. Taxpayers must understand that they must pay them in order not to face unnecessary austerity measures ," Binaj told TCH.
The Director of Taxes, Ilir Binaj, announced that an electronic system will be built together with banks to block bank accounts, as a further measure for entities that do not pay their obligations on time, even after notifications have been made.
"One measure we are implementing is the establishment of a digital system, which would facilitate and accelerate the blocking and unblocking of accounts for entities that do not pay on time. But the effort to collect the debt is ongoing and the increase has been manageable by the tax administration ," he adds.
4.7 billion lek are unpaid obligations. What are the taxes, but also the businesses that have not paid these obligations?
" The largest value is related to income tax and social security, while the main voice was held by trade businesses, then manufacturing ," he said.
Entities that have not paid their profit tax account for 76% of the arrears for May, including those that have not paid their employees' social and health insurance.
